Attendance
School Attendance
It is very important that children attend school everyday. Prolonged absences and sporadic absences are very disruptive to a child's learning and social development.
School attendance is taken at 9:50a.m. each morning. Children who are not in class at this time will be recorded as absent.
Explaining Absences
When a child is absent, the absence must be explained. When an explanation hasn't been provided, a parent will receive a text message asking them to explain their child's absence. An explanation can be provided using the Aladdin app. An explanation can also be provided in advance of a child's absence using the Aladdin app.
Educational Welfare Officer
Educational Welfare Officers (E.W.O.s) are based throughout the country to offer advice and guidance to parents who need support in ensuring that their child attends schools regularly.
Where there are concerns about a child's attendance the E.W.O. will hold attendance clinics or conferences in school. The E.W.O. will focus on explanations provided and in particular, absences that have not been explained.
School Procedure
The following table outlines our school's procedure to deal with absences. An individual attendance tracker report will be used at each stage. These reports will be kept by the Principal. The school must, by law, report absences of 20 days or more to the National Educational Welfare Board (N.E.W.B.).
