Board of Management

The Board of Management is recognised by the Minister for Education and Skills as defined by Section 14 of the Education Act 1998 and, as the backbone of our school, it plays an important role in the life of our school and supports our school in every way. St Mary’s National School has a committed and dedicated Board of Management that promotes the well-being of the school and supports the Principal and staff with the day-to-day running of the school.

The Board of Management of our school is appointed by our Patron - the Most Reverend Dr Francis Duffy, Bishop of Ardagh and Clonmacnois. It is comprised of the following nominees.

The Board of Management

  • manages the school, on behalf of the Patron, for the benefit of the pupils.
  • is appointed for a four year term (currently 2019 - 2023).
  • holds regular meetings in a school year (minimum 5).
  • can be contacted, by letter, through the school office.
  • ratifies all school policies.
  • is affiliated to the Catholic Primary School Management Association (C.P.S.M.A.).
  • has a patron appointed Chairperson and Board appointed Secretary and Treasurer.

The Principal is ultimately responsible to the Board of Management, as appropriate, for the management and leadership of our school.

In addition, the Deputy Principal occupies a position of vital importance within the leadership team in our school.

Together with the Principal and Deputy Principal, the Assistant Principals occupy positions of strategic importance in the leadership, management and administration of our school.
