Letter for parents and children

3rd Apr 2020

Dear Parents,

Like you, our teachers and myself have been learning how best to provide for the children in our school. I hope that the work / activities sent to you have been easy to access and that your child is doing the best they can considering our new situation. I'd like to thank you all for engaging with us and helping us. As I’ve said before, this is a challenging time. We do not expect you to put yourself or your child under any undue pressure. Everyone together - you, your child and our teachers can only do our best in the circumstances we have found ourselves in.

At this point in time, school closures are in place until Monday, 20th April. However, I don’t see re-opening on that date as being realistic. Our teachers have been working through the week on compiling a plan of work / activities for your child for after Easter and they will be in touch if school does not resume on that date. Until then, you and your child should take a well-earned break from the extra challenge of completing schoolwork at home.

We are all hoping that the recent government measures are effective and that these measures will reduce the possibility of any of us being exposed to this virus.

Together with our staff and our Board of Management, I would like to wish you all a very Happy Easter and I hope that you, your children and extended families remain well and stay Covid-19 free particularly those of you who are working in our frontline services – healthcare, emergency and essential retail. Hopefully we will all see a return to normal life soon.

Alan Conroy

Principal

P.S. The letter below is for the children:

Dear children,

We all hope that you are well. This is such a strange time. When we're in school, we all think that if the school closed it would be great! Some of you might still think that! We all know that some of you are missing school, especially seeing your friends and cousins that may be here, even your teacher!

Well I know that your teachers are missing you as I've been talking to them a lot. Our S.N.A.s are missing the children they work with too. It's so strange not seeing you all in school. It's very strange for you having to do so much schoolwork at home too. We want you to remember that it's not the same at home as being in school. So, if you find something hard, or if you cannot do something. Don't worry. Your Mam or Dad can email teacher and explain that to them. All you can do is do your best. Do a little every day and do it well. Read as much as you can and don't forget to help out at home. This is not an easy time for your Mams and Dads either.

We all hope you have a lovely Easter and that you enjoy any Easter Eggs you may get. Don't eat too many and hopefully we will see you all soon!

from Mr Conroy and all the teachers, all the S.N.A.s, Betty, Brigid and Mick
